The Morning Benders – “Outlaw Blues” (Bob Dylan Cover)

In just two days, Bob Dylan’s classic album Bringing It All Back Home will be reissued, however it won’t be Dylan singing. Instead, every single song on the album will be covered by various artists. One of the first tracks to be released off of the compilation is the Morning Benders playing Dylan’s “Outlaw Blues”. It’s slow and open, just how the Morning Benders like it. You can download it here at Pitchfork.

Be sure to look for Subterranean Homesick Blues: A Tribute to Bob Dylan’s Bringing It All Back Home on October 5!

Santana: Guitar Heaven, The Greatest Guitar Classics of All Time

by

7.2/10

First off, I must make it known that I was raised on Santana; some of my earliest memories were listening to Santana absolutely shred on the guitar while my mother and I sang along with the lyrics.  Santana is and always will be a guitar God, a musical genius, and, most of all, an inspiration to aspiring Hispanic musicians that they can make it. That being said. I regretfully say that Guitar Heaven, unfortunately, falls very short of its titled status.

Deerhunter: Halcyon Digest

9/10

In one word, Deerhunter’s fourth studio album, Halcyon Digest, is simply amazing. However, one word cannot adequately describe this album. It is forty-six minutes full of pure emotion, shimmering tones, electronic beats, everything you can ask for from an album. It is more mature sounding than Microcastle/Weird Era Cont., more accessible than any of their previous work, and more musically interesting than any of their previous work. In a world of pop sensations, these four musicians have invented their own style of rock that will be enjoyed for many years to come.

Tame Impala: Innerspeaker

by

8.7/10

Tame Impala’s first full fledged album really does speak for itself, explicitly and implicitly, as the album title suggests. The psychedelic music front doesn’t seem to be succeeding, off-hand there are few modern psych-bands one can name, but do some digging and you’ll find your treasure; Tame Impala’s Innerspeaker shows that there is no shortage of Psychedelic musicians in the world and that there is an abundance of people who want to be moved by their trippy-ass music. Weezer to Reissue Pinkerton

In the midst of a new album, Hurley, and their recently announced “Memories” tour, 2010 has been quite a busy year for Weezer. Now they can add one more thing to their list. On November 2, Weezer will reissue an album that has one of the biggest cult followings of all time, Pinkerton. It is an alt-rock, even borderline emo, album that was a staple for the band, and the 90’s as a whole.

The Pinkerton Deluxe Edition will include 25 new tracks to supplement the original album. These will include b-sides, unreleased tracks, and numerous live tracks from the Reading Festival. A track list is below:

Muse to Headline Lollapalooza 2011?

Image via microcuts.net

The last time hard-rockers Muse played Lollapalooza was when they headlined the festival back in 2007. Since then, they have released a very successful album, The Resistance, as well as touring virtually non-stop. And so even though the lineup for Lollapalooza 2011 isn’t even close to being announced, a pretty big rumor has surfaced.

Florence and the Machine – “Dog Days Are Over” (Yeasayer Remix)

Ever since Florence and the Machine’s performance at the MTV VMA Awards, the band has gained more of a following than they ever could have dreamed of. So while this is our second “You’ve Gotta Hear This” that has to do with Florence and the Machine, it’s only because there are an absurd amount of remixes of their songs.

While Yeasayer has not redone the song, like the xx did to Florence’s “You’ve Got the Love”, they have truly remixed the song, adding a space-rock element that makes it quite interesting. Go check it out via Pitchfork.

Watch Now: Animal Collective – “Bluish”

Animal Collective’s latest video for their song “Bluish” fits right in with the rest. It’s trippy, features black lights and belly dancers, and oh yeah – it’s trippy.
